Llantarnam Abbey - a former Cistercian Monastery

Despite these extremely hard beginnings the English Province flourished and expanded. In 1873 the Sisters were invited to Newport, South Wales, to see to education in the town. This led to the establishment of the English Province in 1882. The work of the Sisters in schools, parishes and nursing spread. Vocations increased and new communities were opened. In 1946 a larger premise was needed as a Provincial House and Novitiate. So Llantarnam Abbey was acquired. This beautiful property was formerly a Cistercian Abbey. The mission spread from England to Wales, and later to Scotland and Ireland.
